Weekend Getaways and Month-Long Giveaways!

We drank coffee and cocktails and read books and sighed at this view and weren't interrupted by tiny whiny humans!

Last week, Andy and I went on a mini-vacation without our kids FOR THE FIRST TIME. It was amazing. We spent 3 days/2 nights at La Cusinga Eco Lodge, our favorite eco lodge on the Pacific Ocean here in Costa Rica (Uvita). We had a private cabina with a spectacular view of the ocean and we just enjoyed ourselves and each other. We even shared an entire bottle of wine and let ourselves get a bit tipsy-- one of us always stays sober for the kids' sake, but not this time!

Incidentally, we've stayed in the same room every time we've gone to La Cusinga (by pure coincidence). The first time we went to Las Cusinga was in 2011 when we fell in love, we went back a year later when I was four months pregnant with Cuen. That was the last trip we took without kids and it was the last time we went to La Cusinga! We were long overdue. Andy's sister stayed at our house with the boys and the best part of all was that we were only a two-hour drive from home. It was really comforting to know that if our kids needed us we could get to them quickly. I'm thankful they didn't need us though!

On the third day of our vacation (stay-cation?) we drove south another hour to the Wilson Botanical Gardens in San Vito. Andy had been here once years ago as a tour guide and wanted to take me. I'm so glad he did! The grounds were beautiful and the staff was beyond friendly. This is a place I want to go back to for sure, even with the kids. The weather was slightly cooler in the mornings and the evenings due to the slightly higher elevation and I loved it. I definitely am a northern girl who likes to sleep with heavy blankets and wake up and put on a sweater-- even better if I'm shedding that sweater by 10 a.m.! The Botanical Gardens are also a biological station and gave us a lot of ideas for our own lodge and farm. If you're a plant and/or bird lover, this place is a must see. It has the highest collection of palms in the ENTIRE WORLD. #nerdingout
